How do you think a cel animation cartoon would do nowadays?

Question: How do you think a cel animation cartoon would do nowadays?

If a cartoon was released that used tradition hand drawn cel animation, do you think it would do as good as cartoons that use digital animation? Or maybe even better?

When done well, those animations are uniquely beautiful; just like any great piece of craftsmanship. Snow White for instance has a distinct look to it and will be remembered long after many of these digital animation pictures. I think that it could do very well.

Unfortunately, I think not. HOWEVER, it depends on marketing and who you are marketing to. Family Guy is done in that style, but not that technique right? I just assume that they use some program to animate it, but it is done to look like cel animation... ok, fine, poor argument. No, just plain no. It takes too much time when there are companies that can pump out episodes cheaper and faster. At least I assume it is cheaper and faster or else why the heck would they stand for it unless no one would watch a cel animation, which takes us back to your question. Setting up computer animation is probably cheaper in the long run in a case like Family Guy where they can now recycle images previously used in various new environments. At the same time, the cels from previous episodes could be reused too. AHHH I don't know!

Wouldn't happen nowadays. The man power to generate those pictures would be too great financially. 12 drawings per second and you are going to pay artists how much per hour for a feature length film? 60-90 minutes? Movie executives would consider it a waste of money. It might do well as a film short.

Judging from the answer above me, that equals 3,600 drawings for an hour long clip. DAMN.
